About
Rui Jun Mei
I'm a Product Designer based in Amsterdam with five+ years of experience designing digital products across media, entertainment, e-commerce and SaaS.
Over the past few years I've worked with startups, agencies and large organisations, most notably RTL and Videoland, where I helped design products used by millions of people. My work spans everything from discovery and user research to high-fidelity interface design, design systems and experimentation.
I enjoy working on products where user needs and business goals come together. Whether I'm redesigning a critical user flow, validating concepts through usability testing or building scalable component libraries, I aim to create experiences that feel simple, intuitive and purposeful.
Alongside my professional work, I spent a year studying Mandarin at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Living in China broadened my perspective as a designer and strengthened my appreciation for cultural differences, communication and user behaviour across markets.
Today I work as a freelance Product Designer, partnering with startups and product teams to design thoughtful digital experiences for web and mobile.

My approach
Rather than just designing screens, I enjoy understanding why users behave the way they do.
My process usually combines:
Product thinking
UX research
Wireframing & prototyping
Interface design
Design systems
CRO & experimentation
Close collaboration with developers and stakeholders
Outside of work
When I'm not designing, you'll probably find me:
Working out
Travelling
Learning languages
Exploring cafés and restaurants
Taking photos
Creating videos
Visiting museums
